Mosaic
Fall 2011
This collection is made from wool, silk, and leather, is built upon the deconstruction and reconstruction of glass.  It is meant to evoke the idea that although we may fall to piecees and become "broken" there is still life.  I think of this collection as the process of rifling through the rubble of those sharded, jagged pieces to find what is still beautiful, build it back together, and make something stronger than what stood before.  The visual aspect of a this broken glass mosaic is evoked with elaborate seaming and thoughtful silhouettes. Following with the deconstruction/rebuilding theme, some of the fabric is embellished by multiple layers of frayed wool gabardine.

All pieces were designed, patterned, and constructed by Laura Ruby.
